Georgia Square Mall is rich in history. It opened in February of 1981, in the midst of the Disco era. It was so outlandishly 70’s/80’s modern that it was jokingly referred to as the “Disco Mall”. The doors opened with the finest stores –Davison’s (now called Macy’s), Sears, jcpenney, and Belk – all four still thrive in this popular family mall.
The mall has 671,934 square feet of retail space with plenty of parking. In its two levels are stores offering: accessories, cards, children’s apparel, department stores, electronics, entertainment, family apparel, food specialties, games, gifts, health and beauty, jewelry, men’s apparel, music, optical, restaurants, shoes, specialty stores, sporting goods, toys, video, wireless and cellular services, and women’s apparel.
In addition to its four anchors, Georgia Square Mall features many of the top names in retail, like Hollister, American Eagle Outfitters, Aeropostale, Gymboree, Men’s Wearhouse & Tux, Children’s Place, Charlotte Russe, Lane Bryant, New York & Co., Finish Line, and Victoria’s Secret.
Community and family activities are the heartbeat of Georgia Square Mall. Children enjoy Trick or Treating every year at Halloween. Santa arrives amid great fanfare and is available for photos. On Tuesdays, the participating eateries offer a Kids Eat Free Program when other items are purchased at menu price. A historical favorite New Year’s Eve fireworks show is returning for the benefit of the community. Adults enjoy an active Mall Walker Program which welcomes visitors to walk the 1-mile circumference of the mall in a climate-controlled environment. And a family-favorite, Georgia Square Value Cinema, 5-screen theater, shows all the favorite movies for only $2.50!
Regular mall hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-9pm and Noon-6pm on Sunday. Department store hours vary, especially during holidays or special events. The Management Office is open from 8:30am-5pm Monday through Friday.
Stroller and wheelchair rental is available through the Mall Office. An ATM is located in the lower level in Macy’s Court. The mall is served by Athens Transit Route 20.
